Our Manchester Free Tours are for everyone but you might have some questions about how they work. Here we try to answer them

Why do you offer Free Tours?

We believe that is the best way to get to know a city. We believe that everyone should enjoy this amazing city and learn and discover during their visit in Manchester, regardless of their budget.

We also strongly believe that you should not have to pay for a tour in advance, without having experienced it first. We think that you should decide how much you think the tour was worth when the tour is finished. So we have to work extra hard for your appreciation.

Tips are invited by the guide, but you will never be pressured to tip. Book for free by email or phone.

So do I have to make a reservation or can I just show up?

Here’s what we do differently. Reservations are required for a guaranteed spot on the tour. We hate those free tours where you can’t hear what’s being said because there are +50 people on it. Reservations help us determine the number of guides we need to ensure that our groups remain manageable and enjoyable. We care about your experience, we care about you being able to interact with your guide and getting to know them personally so they can help you make the most of your time in the city and discover the best things to do in Manchester. So we strongly suggest contacting us before turning up to a tour to avoid disappointment, our phone number is 07746943389 we accept, texts, whatsapps, phone calls, emails… whatever is easier for you

Why do I need to give my phone number when making a reservation?

This is optional. You will receive your reservation confirmation and a reminder on the day before your tour via email. We do recommend, however, that you give us a phone number you can be reached on on the day of the tour. This way, your tour guide can get in touch with you if there are any last-minute changes to the tour.

We are a group of 6 or more, can we still reserve?

From experience we know that larger groups have the tendency to bail on us last minute or to unintentionally distract from the tour. We want all our tour guests to enjoy the tour, so please be aware of that when you can with your party. We encourage big groups to book a private tour but you’re still welcome on any tour – but please don’t bail on us!

What happens if we arrive late?

Please, please, please try to be on time. We recommend arriving at the starting location 10 minutes before the tour starts.
We also recommend checking with your concierge or online how much time you need to make it to the tour on time and allow some extra buffer time.
You don’t want to be the person arriving late and having to call and interrupt the guide in the middle of a tour. Your email reminder that you receive the day before the tour should list the tour guide’s name and phone number.  It’s not for us – it’s for you! People arriving 10 minutes early and waiting in the cold don’t want to wait extra time for the tour to start because someone has decided not to check distances before coming to the tour.
So we will start on time. We’ll wait at the starting point for 5 minutes and then move to Piccadilly Gardens for about 10 minutes. If you are running late or are lost please be aware our guides do not use their phones once the tour has begun, so please call us before 10am and we may be able to help you.

I have changed my mind and cannot come to the tour. Do I have to let you know?

Yes, please! Our places are limited and we often have to send away interested guests, because there is no more space. By letting us know in time that you cannot make it, we can open up the extra spot to other interested guests. We do work on the honor system, so please understand that if you make a reservation and don’t show up or bail on us last minute, this may affect your ability to make any future reservations. If at any point during the tour you need to leave please make your guide aware of this. Our guides keep a track of how many people are on the tour and try to make sure nobody gets lost. If you have left the tour without notifying us this can cause confusion and unnecessary waiting for other people on the tour.

Do the tours ever get cancelled due to bad weather?

This is Manchester and the show must go on! Our tours go out rain or shine. Dress appropriately for the conditions. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended and an umbrella is always handy. Wear extra layers of clothes and be prepared.

Do the tours end where they start?

No. Each tour ends at a different location to the starting point.

What is an appropriate tip amount for a free tour?

It all depends on you. Just keep in mind the costs of living in Manchester. Keep in mind that your tour guide is giving a bunch of hours to take care of you and keep in mind your budget. Loved your tour and tour guide? Let him or her know! We appreciate whatever you feel is fair. You name the price. We are that confident in the quality of our tours. Sometimes another great tip to your guide is a great review on trip advisor that will attract more people to his/her tour…

Will my kids like these tours?

That depends on your kid. We’ve had plenty of kids on our tour before and we’ve had rave reviews from parents. Our tours are designed to be suitable for people of all ages and are one of the best options of activities in Manchester for families. A fun thing to do in Manchester!

How long are the walks?

Our general tours are around 2:45 hours to 3 hours. It all depends the pace of the group, so be prepared to walk! We want you to discover what to see in Manchester and the must see main attractions in Manchester. If you have problems with walking longer distances, we recommend you booking the private tour, so you can decide how fast the tour moves.

Is there a break?

Yes, there’s a coffee break at Home Manchester – an amazing venue that exemplifies modern independent culture in the city; the perfect venue for a quick bit of refreshment
